Technology Assessments & Modernization
Technology assessments and modernization: what to fix first, and why
When your systems feel slow, risky or held together with tape, you need an honest outside read before you spend money. We review your software, infrastructure, security and processes and tell you what's worth fixing first.
Technology Assessments & Modernization at Nocap Technologies
A technology assessment from Nocap Technologies is a clear-eyed review of the systems your business runs on: software, infrastructure, security, data and the processes around them. We find what is slowing you down, what puts you at risk and what is costing more than it should, then rank the fixes by impact and effort. You get a written report in plain language, not a 90-page binder, with a short list of what to do first. Our founder's background in ethical hacking and software development means we look at security and code quality, not just licenses and org charts. We have no software to resell, so our recommendations aren't tied to a vendor. If the honest answer is that your setup is fine, we'll say that too.
What we look at
- Software and tools: what you pay for, what you use and where they overlap
- Infrastructure: hosting, cloud accounts, backups and recovery
- Security: access, passwords and secrets, patching, exposed services
- Data: where it lives, who can reach it and whether it can be trusted
- Processes: the manual work and workarounds holding things together
- AI readiness: where AI could help, and what has to be true first
What you get
A short written report with findings ranked by severity, a plain explanation of each one and a practical plan: quick wins, medium projects and things to watch. If you want help with the fixes, we can do them, but the report stands on its own either way.
How it works
-
Kickoff
We agree on scope and get read-only access where we need it. We don't change anything during an assessment.
-
Review
We look at the systems, talk to the people who use them and check what we find.
-
Report
You get the findings and the plan, and we walk you through it.
-
Optional: fix it
If you want, we take on the fixes in priority order.
Why an outside read helps
People inside a business stop seeing the workarounds. An outside reviewer with no software to sell and a security background sees them right away. We've been on both sides: building systems and breaking into them.
What we commonly find
Every business is different, but a few findings come up again and again:
- Paid software licenses nobody uses anymore
- Shared admin passwords and accounts that should have been closed
- Backups that have never been restored to prove they work
- Admin pages or old test servers exposed to the internet
- A critical process that depends on one person or one spreadsheet
Is an assessment right for you?
It's a good fit before a big technology purchase, after a security scare, when you've grown and your systems haven't, or when you inherit systems from a departing employee or vendor. It's also a sensible first step before any AI project, because AI works best on top of clean data and sound systems.
Timeline and cost
Most assessments take days to a couple of weeks depending on how much you run. The scope and price are agreed before we start. See how we price.
Questions people ask
What is a technology assessment?
It is an outside review of your software, infrastructure, security and processes that finds what is holding you back and ranks the fixes by impact and effort.
Will you change our systems during the assessment?
No. Assessments are read-only. Any fixes happen afterwards, and only if you want them.
Do you include security in the assessment?
Yes. Our founder has a background in ethical hacking, so access, secrets, patching and exposed services are part of every review.
Got something worth building?
Tell us what you're working on, however early or unusual. It goes straight to the founder.
